First English Server For Ragnarok Online 2 Goes Open Beta

Do you remember Ragnarok Online? You know, that anime-styled MMORPG that became popular all over the world a few years ago. Well, it now has a sequel and it's called Ragnarok Online 2. The game everybody loved still has that anime-style look but it's now in full 3D. How awesome is that?

Ragnarok Online 2
(Ragnarok Online 2)

Your favorite classes are back except maybe for the Merchant Class but you'll still have five classes to choose from and these are the Swordsman, Magician, Archer, Thief and Acolyte. Each class has an advanced class in which you can change to as soon as you reach Level 25.

Blacksmith is no longer an advanced class of the Merchant class because there is no longer a Merchant class. It is now part of the Job System. There are four types of jobs for you to specialize in and from these jobs you can choose to become a Chef, an Alchemist, a Blacksmith or an Artisan.

Unlike the old Ragnarok Online game where all maps are open to everyone, Ragnarok Online 2 will have Instanced Dungeons. These will allow you to party up with your friends and not have to worry about other players kill stealing or looting from your kill.

The card system is back and it's better than ever. Cards give your character extra traits and abilities and you can slot and equip up to 5 different cards. You can get these cards from hunting monsters or by synthesizing better and stronger cards from an NPC. To store all your cards, you can use a Card Album because your inventory is not big enough to hold all of them.

PvP (player-vs-player) was a big part of the old Ragnarok Online game and Ragnarok Online 2 has it as well. You can choose to battle or duel anywhere or you can opt to fight it out in the Arena. Choosing where you accept to duel can mean life or death (or not). LOL!

Of course, Ragnarok Online 2 won't become complete without those cute Peco Pecos to mount. You can get your first Peco Peco mount at Level 15 and all you have to do is buy it from the Mount NPC in Prontera. By the way, the Peco Peco is not the only mount available in the game. You'll eventually find other mounts to buy and ride as you play the game.

New to Ragnarok Online 2 is the Flying Service. This service will let you fly to your destination quickly. You can choose from two types of Flying Services and these are Short Distance Flying and Far Distance Flying. Short Distance Flying will only fly you within the same area while Far Distance Flying will take you anywhere quickly but it will cost more.

Trading in Ragnarok Online 2 is done in two ways. The first one is by setting up a Personal Shop and the second one is by using the Auction House. Selling items through your Personal Shop won't incur any fees. The Auction House will charge you an auction fee but you don't have to stay online to sell your items.

Ragnarok Online 2 has more features available but you'll have to play the game to find what these features are. If you are interested in adventuring once again in Midgard then visit the official website, create a new account, download and install the game.

C9 Offers Class Reset For Free

Starting from December 12, 2012 until December 19, 2012, inactive players who will come back and play C9 again will receive a free Class Reset Item. What does a Class Reset Item do? Obviously, it will let players choose another class for their characters in C9 and all they have to do to get one is play the game again. Of course, they will have to return and play the game again before December 19, 2012.

 C9

Why would players want to reset their character class? In the e-mail notice sent by Webzen, there are two reasons why players will want to do it. The first reason that Webzen gave was maybe they "didn't choose the right class" when they first created their characters. Not choosing the right class is definitely a problem and could explain why they stopped playing the game.

The second reason Webzen gave was the character class they chose for their characters "was too hard" for them to play. Obviously, players don't want to play a game that's hard to play because it will only frustrate them. If that cause of that was their choice of character class then giving them the opportunity to change it can possibly get them back to play again.

Players who will avail of this offer must use the Class Reset Item immediately because this particular item will expire in only a week. If they have two or more characters in their account then the character that has the highest level will get it. Unfortunately, they won't get to choose which character will get it.

By the way, the Class Reset Item will only let you change your advanced class. For example, a Guardian can change from a Blademaster and vice-versa. Base classes are not changeable.

C9 or Continent of the Ninth Seal is an action-packed multiplayer online RPG. It's fun to play and players will enjoy hours and hours of dungeon raiding by themselves or with friends. Inactive players who are looking to play the game again should definitely take advantage of this offer from Webzen.

MMO FPS Planetside 2 Blasts Its Way Through Fans

After playing an hour full of intense shooting, camping, and flying slow futuristic aircrafts (can’t they make fast aircrafts in the distant future?), this is my impression of the newest MMOFPS Planetside 2. For starters, Planetside 2 is like the original Planetside combined Halo sans the ringworld and the grumpy gun-toting aliens. It also incorporates Black Ops 2’s fast-paced action and Battlefield 3 with its maps and character classes, all topped with the intensity and immensity of Nuclear Dawn. Simply put, the game is as exciting as it looks: Master Chief wannabes fighting at large, verdant terrains while planes and tanks storm them for a quick and easy kill.

Planetside 2
(Planetside 2)

Despite my reference to other games because as no FPS is original anymore since Counter Strike’s release, Planetside is probably one reason why you should go back to FPS. Created by Sony Entertainment Online, we think this is one of Sony’s attempts to buy back in the bloated genre of first-person shooters, except that it looks promising. Gameplay-wise, it will make you fight against literally scores of players on ridiculously huge maps, and mostly your games are just skirmishes of a bigger war to take over the fictional planet of Auraxis.

Like Planetside 2, online casinos provide both escapist entertainment and therapeutic catharsis at the stroke of a button. Whenever we feel angry or hungry for something (definitely not food), we just boot our computers, load our favorite games, and get consumed by the digital world. However, unlike online casino, the only things we get out of playing video games after several hours are massive headaches, insomnia, and the cringe after seeing our electric bills. Online poker, on the other hand, gives you the chance to have fun and at the same time, hit jackpots, sweep tables, and get the lucky 777. Thanks to online casino sites like partycasino.com, playing casino has never been convenient. Aside from the usual casino games such as video poker, slots, baccarat, and roulettes, there are also fun-filled arcade games with rewarding prizes such as the famous Bejeweled. Also, for the geeky players out there, partycasino.com has their Marvel-themed slots. It’s like a casino, but in the comfort of your homes.

Going back to Planetside 2, it uses Sony’s Forgelight engine, which is also used in EverQuest Next. Finally, Sony has kept up with the conventions of most first-person games when it comes to graphics, such as real-time radiosity, realistic physics, motion blurring, eye adaptation, and high-dynamic ranging. Aside from the improved physics of the game, the environment also took a serious leap from bland to fresh and exciting. After playing, you probably wouldn’t step on the vegetation due to its realistic rendering. However, the best part of Planetside 2 is that there is a class that has a JETPACK, which you can use to fly short distances. Although we have criticisms of the game too, it will be best to leave it to you and see if Planetside 2 will be one of the best online FPS games for years to come.

Lockboxes, Chance Packs, Lucky Boxes, Etc. Is PWE Running A Casino?

PWE or Perfect World Entertainment is an online game publisher. Some of the online games it publishes are Star Trek Online, Champions Online, RaiderZ and Blacklight: Retribution. Besides being published by PWE and Free-To-Play, all these games have another thing in common and you'll find it in each game's item shop or marketplace.

Chance Pack in Blacklight: Retribution
(A sample Chance Pack in Blacklight: Retribution)

Each game has a different name for it but, in general, you can describe it as an item that gives out uncertain or random items. In Star Trek Online and Champions Online it's called a Lockbox. Blacklight: Retribution's name for it is Chance Pack and, in RaiderZ, it has what it calls a Lucky Box. All of these items may have different names but all of them have the same function and that is to give out random items.

Also, these items are bought with Zen and Zen is bought with real money. With that in mind, buying these items is almost like gambling because you'll only get a random chance of getting the actual item you want from it and, instead of using chips or gambling chips, you use Zen to pay for them. So, is PWE running a massively multiplayer online gaming casino?

Casinos are almost synonymous to gambling and, with the existence of such items in games published by PWE, you are like  gambling with your money every time you buy any of these items. Of course, if all you want is to gamble then why not just go to an online casino and gamble till you drop but, then again, why go there when you can do it in your favorite PWE published MMO.

A Lock Box in Star Trek Online
(A Lock Box in Star Trek Online)

Gambling has no place in any massively multiplayer online game. PWE can call it a lockbox, a chance pack,  a lucky box or whatever it wants to call it but, as long as it gives out random items and it is bought with Zen which is bought with real money, buying it is still gambling because what you'll get when the item is opened is uncertain or random.

This is just a suggestion but PWE should just sell the item directly and not put it in a random box along with other useless items. By selling items directly and not putting them in a random box, the perception of gambling is removed from the item sold.

Play Mortal Online For FREE

Did you know that you can now download, install and play Mortal Online for FREE? Yes, this once Pay-To-Play game is now available to everyone for FREE. Those who wish to continue paying money as a subscriber can do so but those who want to try the game first before spending money on a subscription can play the game for FREE without any obligations.

Mortal Online Free-To-Play
(Mortal Online Free-To-Play)

Like most Pay-To-Play MMO games that went Free-To-Play, Mortal Online's Free-To-Play option has limits. For example, instead of 100 skills points, Free-To-Play players will only get 60 skill points. 60 skill points against 100 skill points. Paying players will definitely get a huge advantage over non-paying or free players.

Below are just some of what a premium or paying player will enjoy in Mortal Online:
  • Maximum for all skills is 100
  • Premium accounts may use thievery skills
  • Premium accounts may loot expensive objects
  • Premium accounts may trade expensive objects
Free players who wish to enjoy everything the game offers will just have to subscribe or pay the monthly fee. Paying players who will downgrade to free-to-play will get the restrictions as well. Subscribing again will lift or remove the restrictions.

As you can see, Mortal Online's Free-To-Play offer is more like a really extended trial because you'll have to subscribe or pay to enjoy the full game. Not having the ability to loot and trade expensive items can become a burden later in the game.

Anyway, those who wish to try out the game can do so freely and without worrying about anything. Casual players will enjoy their free accounts because they can now play the game anytime they want without spending anything.

See the YouTube video below to get a glimpse of what you can do in Mortal Online.

Play District 187 On STEAM

District 187 is Netmarble's latest multiplayer online first-person-shooter. It's Free-To-Play and it's now on STEAM. The game is very small. It will only take you a few minutes to download and install on STEAM. You will also need a Netmarble account to play. If you don't have one then you can get one for free at https://member.netmarble.com/join/member_join.asp.

District 187
(District 187)

District 187 plays very much like your everyday first-person-shooter. Two sides are fighting over control of the district and these two sides are the Police or SWAT and the Gangsters. Like most Lobby based first-person-shooting games, you can choose which side to play for in the Lobby.

In District 187, you can customize your guns, loadout and characters by buying new items in the Shop. Guns are customized by buying and equipping Mods. Unfortunately, the default guns don't have any modification slots. You'll have to buy new guns with modification slots if you want to modify them.

As for character customization, you can customize your character by buying items like tops, bottoms, hairstyle, etc. Unfortunately, District 187 won't let you keep any of these items because you can only rent them for 1 day up to 50 days. The longer the duration, the higher the price of an item becomes.

District 187 has several game modes to play in and these are Team Deathmatch, Bomb Mode, Round Match and Scramble Mode. Team Deathmatch is a race to a certain amount of kills. Bomb Mode is about planting and defusing a bomb. Round Match is a race to winning the most number of rounds in the match. The last which is Scramble Mode is basically Capture The Flag.

District 187 is a pretty decent multiplayer online first-person-shooting game but it's not the best. FPS games like Blacklight: Retribution, Bullet Run and Planetside 2 are better. Of course, giving District 187 a try wouldn't hurt at all specially if you enjoy playing first-person-shooting games.

Vehicles Are Now Available In Champions Online

Champions Online is an amazing Super Hero themed MMO and it's a very good alternative to City Of Heroes: Freedom because it was developed by the original developers of City Of Heroes, Cryptic Studios. For those City Of Heroes: Freedom players who are still thinking of whether to jump to Champions Online or not, well, now is the perfect time to do so because Champions Online just got a massive update called Champions Online: Reloaded and one of the cool things that came with this update is the addition of player vehicles.

Vehicle in Champions Online
(Vehicle in Champions Online. Image Credit: Champions Online)

Yup, Champions Online now has player vehicles. Vehicles that your heroes can ride as they fight for justice and peace in Millenium City. Unfortunately, these vehicles are not FREE. You'll have to buy them from the C-Store. You'll also get them from a Hover Tank Arsenal Lock Box but you'll still have to buy the key from the C-Store with Zen.

Fortunately, there are two ways of earning Zen for FREE in Champions Online. The first is by completing and doing surveys and offers in Perfect World Entertainment's website. The second way of earning Zen is by farming and exchanging Q for Zen in-game. It may take you a long time to get the amount of Zen you want or need but at least it's FREE.

By the way, Q means Questionite. It's like Dilithium in Star Trek Online. These currencies make both games truly Free-To-Play because you can exchange them for Zen which will allow you to buy Zen only items without spending any money. The trade-off is, it takes a lot of time to get them.

Vehicle in Champions Online

Back to the vehicles. The vehicles in Champions Online are highly customizable. With thirteen chassis to choose from and each with its own amount of MOD slots, the ability to create a truly unique vehicle for your Hero is right under your fingertips.

Here is a preview video of the vehicles in YouTube. Credit goes to the original uploader of the video.

Trouble With RaiderZ Founder's Pack And Early Access

The Open Beta of RaiderZ starts on October 24, 2012 but those who bought a Founder's Pack have Early Access to the game which is kinda like an extra perk for buying a Founder's Pack. Early Access starts earlier than the actual Open Beta launch. In fact, it already started but some players who bought a Founder's Pack are having difficulties logging in.

RaiderZ Founder's Pack
(RaiderZ Founder's Pack)

This is not really a problem because they could just wait for the actual Open Beta launch of the game. Unfortunately, there are players who bought a Founders Pack, not because of the items but, because of the Early Access and if they can't login to play after paying for the privilege then they just wasted their money.

Is this some kind of scam? In a way, it is because the publisher advertised something like getting an Early Access to the game if players buy this and that and, when players bought it, they didn't get to enjoy it because they couldn't login to the game. Basically, the publisher took the players' money but didn't deliver the goods and that sounds like a scam.

Unfortunately, those players who bought a Founder's Pack because of the Early Access can't do anything except wait for the publisher to resolve the problem on their end. The problem with waiting is, these players are slowly losing what they paid for and that's Early Access to the game. If it takes the publisher a day to fix or resolve this problem then everyone who bought a Founder's Pack because of the Early Access won't get nor enjoy what they paid for.

RaiderZ Founder's Pack
(RaiderZ Founder's Pack Early Access Problem)

Seriously, some of these players have no interest in the Founder's Pack but they still spent $9.99 USD for it because of the advertised guaranteed Early Access. Early Access is now LIVE but many of these players are not enjoying or getting what they paid for. This will reflect badly on the publisher and it will discourage these players from purchasing anything from them again.

Hopefully, this problem with the Early Access gets resolved soon because, if not then the number of raging Early Access buyers will only increase. Obviously, the hours lost are gone for good since no one can turn back time but, as a sign of good faith, the publisher should, at least, offer some kind of compensation specially when these players paid good money for it.

For now, those who are thinking of buying a Founder's Pack to get Early Access should probably think it over carefully. As you can see, paying good money for Early Access to RaiderZ will not guarantee you access at all. You will only lose your hard earn cash in the process.

Get Your Free DOTA 2 Close Beta Keys For FREE

DOTA 2 is the sequel to the very popular game that revolutionized the multiplayer online battle arena or MOBA games genre. Defense Of The Ancients 2 or simply DOTA 2 is currently in Close Beta but thousands of players are already playing it. In fact, tournaments are already on there way even before the game is officially launched.

DOTA 2 Sign-Up
(DOTA 2 Sign-Up)

If you want to play DOTA 2 now then you'll need get a Free Close Beta Key and you can get one from various gaming websites. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, Alienware Arena gave away thousands of Free Close Beta Keys. Unfortunately, all of them were already taken as of this writing but don't lose hope because more Free Close Beta Keys will be given away to public soon.

In the meantime, why not checkout the following links:
You can also try searching Google for other sources of Free DOTA 2 Close Beta Keys but be very careful because some of them are scams. For example, someone answered and posted a link in Yahoo Answer but the link is an adf.ly link that redirected to adf.ly's main site. There is also a site where you'll be asked to download a file but to do so you must first complete a survey or an offer.

I've also seen some results that point to a DOTA 2 Key Generator. Be very careful of this because this doesn't work and, if you scan it with an anti-virus, it'll trigger a virus warning.

The safest way, but it may not be the quickest, to get a Free Close Beta Key for DOTA is to visit the official DOTA 2 blog and click on the green SIGN-UP button. This will take you to a page where you'll be asked to complete a survey but you'll need a STEAM account to answer it. If you have STEAM installed and you are logged-in to your account then click here.

DOTA 2 may look and feel like the original DOTA but it's a very different game. You'll find a list of differences here.

Obviously, the purpose of the Stress Test is to stress the server to the point of crashing it. This will help the developer and publisher determine the best server setup for RaiderZ. It will also prepare them when Open Beta comes because if it doesn't then this Stress Test Event would be all for nothing. He he he!

Also, if you reach Level 10 while playing in this Stress Test event then you'll be rewarded with a special prize when Open Beta starts. This is a very easy prize to get because getting to Level 10 in RaiderZ is a piece of cake. It will only take you a couple of hours of playing to reach Level 10. Just go through all the quest to receive all the experience points you'll need to level up quickly.

If you bought a founder's pack then you'll be able to try out and use your Black Arrod Mount and all the other items included in the pack. You'll get them again when Open Beta starts because characters in this Stress Test will be wiped at the end of the event. Remember, this is not yet Open Beta. It's just a Stress Test to test the stability of the server.

(Kabalyero in RaiderZ Stress Test Server)

RaiderZ is dubbed as a monster hunting action-oriented fantasy mmorpg but aren't all mmorpgs all about hunting and killing monsters? Anyway, if you haven't tried it they try it now and decide whether you'll play it or not when Open Beta starts.

Universal Monsters Online, Browser Based MOBA, Open Beta

Forget about League Of Legends or even DOTA 2 because Universal Monsters Online is here and it's currently in Open Beta. Universal Monsters Online is a new browser-based multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) published by Bigpoint and it's Free-To-Play.
Frankenstein's Monsters, UMO
(Frankenstein's Monsters, UMO)

In Universal Monsters Online you'll take control and play as your favorite monsters from Universal Studios. These monsters include Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Wolf Man, The Mummy, Invisible Man, Phantom of the Opera, Bride of Frankenstein and others.

Universal Monsters Online plays very much like your favorite MOBA but with some differences. For example, your base or your HQ doesn't produce creeps or, in this game's case, zombies. They appear after killing an opponent player's monster. These zombies will help you destroy your opponent's buildings, turrets, enemy monsters and others.

The game is played by two teams of monsters competing in matches where the objective is to destroy the other team's base or HQ and take the Damsel. Honestly, the Damsel feels more like a Sacrifice and two teams of monsters are competing for her blood. A sacrifice makes more sense than a damsel in distress. Besides, why would a group of monsters save a Damsel?
Taking the Damsel To Your HQ
(Taking the Damsel To Your HQ)

Leveling-up your monster in the match is very important because it'll become stronger. To level-up your monster, all you have to do is destroy your opponent's buildings, kill your opponents civilians and, of course, kill your opponent's monsters. Killing those trolls that wander around the map will also help level-up your monster.

Victory in Universal Monsters Online relies on how fast you can make your monster stronger than your opponent's monster. If the level gap between your monster and your opponent's monster becomes too large then there's nothing more you can do except accept your defeat.

Two Teams Of Monsters Fight To Win
(Two Teams Of Monsters Fight To Take The Damsel)

The graphics of Universal Monsters Online is very nice specially in high settings. Fortunately, the game still looks good even at lower settings. Also, playing in lower graphics setting will give you more framerate specially during encounters with your opponent's monster.

Overall, the game is fun to play and it's easy enough for new players to enjoy. Check it out and, who knows, you might enjoy it too.

By the way, like most MOBA games, Universal Monsters Online also has players leaving or quitting during a match. It sucks because it gives the other team a huge advantage. If you are going to play then play till the end.

Offensive Combat, New Browser Based FPS And It's FREE

Heads-up FPS fans. Offensive Combat is a new browser-based online multiplayer FPS game from U4iA Games and it's Free-To-Play. The game is already in Open Beta and it's just waiting for you to play it. Of course, you'll need an account to play the game but creating an account is very simple. You can sign-in using your Facebook, Twitter or Google account. If you don't want to use any of those then you can also create a new U4iA account and use it to play the game.

Offensive Combat
(Offensive Combat)

Offensive Combat offers a lot of ways to customize your playing experience. You can customize your character, your loadouts and you can even choose your PWNs. PWNs are like taunts and you can do them after each kill but you must be close enough to your kills to PWN them. Successfully PWNing your kills will give some extra rewards.

Playing the game is very simple. You aim with your mouse, shoot with your left-mouse button and move using your ASWD keys. Also, you hold the shift key to run, ctrl key to crouch and right-mouse button to aim-down-sight. If you want to jump then all you have to do is tap the spacebar key and if you want to throw a grenade then just simply tap the E key.

The game itself is pretty fast-paced and you'll find yourself shooting or getting shot at all the time. Camping won't do you any good in Offensive Combat. You either move or die where you stand. Besides, the radar will always show you where the action is. Also, if you are killed then you can place a beacon on the player that killed you. This beacon will show you where this player is all the time.

PWNED
(PWN'D)

The graphics of the game is pretty nice even at low settings. The items, weapons, characters and environment of the game may look cartoonish but the game itself is obviously not for babies. Overall the game is pretty fun to play and, because it's browser based, the game is more accessible allowing for more players to kill and PWN in-game.

So, if you are a fan of first-person-shooters then you must definitely try out Offensive Combat. Warning, because of its offensive nature, onion-skinned players and those with poor constitution should stay away from it.

Campaign To Save City Of Heroes: Freedom Has Failed

A month ago, fans and players of City Of Heroes: Freedom started a campaign to save the game from closure. An online petition was started and thousands of players even rallied in the game to show NCSoft that the game is not yet ready to die. Unfortunately, all the efforts put in by the community proved futile because the respond given by NCSoft didn't lean in their favor.

RIP City Of Heroes
(RIP City Of Heroes)

NCSoft will close City Of Heroes: Freedom on November 30, 2012 and, unfortunately, 20,000 signatures on an online petition and a rally attended by thousands of players weren't enough to stop it. Of course, the campaign wasn't limited to the online petition and the rally. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people tweeted, liked and shared the information to save COH everywhere.

Even celebrities like Sean Astin, Mercedes Lackey and others publicly offered their support to save City Of Heroes: Freedom. Yet, none of these had an ounce of effect in NCSoft's decision to kill the game.

Although, NCSoft did claim that it tried to sell the game but, unfortunately, it failed. Did NCSoft really tried to sell the game and the studio? Only NCSoft can answer that question. Just remember, NCSoft lost in court to Richard Garriot in a case involving a forged letter of resignation.
"We've exhausted all options including the selling of the studio and the rights to the City of Heroes intellectual property, but in the end, efforts to do so were not successful. Response to City of Heroes® Player and Fan Suggestions"

In any case, City Of Heroes: Freedom or simply City Of Heroes will forever remain in everyone's memory. The game will have a series of events before its funeral on November 30, 2012. Everyone who has an account can continue to enjoy the game until its bitter end.

For those who are looking for a new Superhero themed MMO, why not check out Champions Online. It has better graphics and the action is faster than that of City Of Heroes: Freedom. Also, it was developed by the original developers of City Of Heroes, Cryptic Studios.

By the way, Cryptic Studios was able to hire some people from Paragon Studios. "We’ve been very lucky to land some great talent from 38 Studios and Paragon Studios. - STO: State Of The Game, September 2012". Good for them but not so good for City Of Heroes: Freedom.

The song is in Korean but it has a very catchy tune and, to top that off, it has a very weird yet funny dance steps. Combine those two and you got something that makes people want to dance like crazy. The song is so popular that it's been featured in various television shows in the US and in other countries.

Now, what does it got to do with Dragon Nest or with any MMO for that matter? Well, it seems that the developers of Dragon Nest have picked-up the dance steps and placed them into the game. If you love the song and the dance steps then you can now perform the dance with your character in Dragon Nest.

Unfortunately, the new Gangnam Style Dance Move is currently available only in Dragon Nest CN. Will it become available in Dragon Nest NA and Dragon Nest SEA? Well, there are no news about it yet but if it's already in Dragon Nest CN then it'll just be a matter of time before it becomes available to all Dragon Nest regions.

In the meantime, here is the promotional video for the new Dragon Nest Gangnam Style Dance Move. Enjoy watching it.

Play Star Wars Galaxies Pre-CU For FREE

Star Wars Galaxies got shutdown to make way for the unsuccessful Star Wars: The Old Republic but, did you know that you can still play the Pre-CU version of Star Wars Galaxies for FREE? Yes you can and it's all thanks to a private server project called SWGEmu.

Star Wars Galaxies(Star Wars Galaxies)

SWGEmu means Star Wars Galaxies Emulator and, what it does is, it tries to imitate or emulate the original server software used by Sony Online Entertainment to run or serve Star Wars Galaxies to all its players. SWGEmu is in constant development and it still has a long way to go before it could fully emulate SOE's old SWG server software.

The good news is, if you want to play Star Wars Galaxies again then you can through SWGEmu. Currently, SWGEmu has two servers running and connecting to any of them will let you play Star Wars Galaxies again. Of course, you will need an original copy of the game and if you don't have one then you can probably buy a copy from various online stores.

For example, you can buy the game from MeoStore for only $1.27 USD. Other online stores have it listed below $10 USD. If you want to know where you can buy Star Wars Galaxies then simply search for "star wars galaxies" in Google under Shopping.

You can also find it on Amazon.com but the price it's not very cheap. For example, a new copy of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided in Amazon.com will costs you $73.99 USD. Wow! For a dead game with no running official server, that's very expensive. The weird thing about is, Star Wars Galaxies: Starter Kit which is also listed in Amazon.com will only cost you $19.95 USD and it includes content from Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided and Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed.

Of course, buying a dead game with no running official servers is somewhat unreasonable but, unfortunately, SWGEmu will only allow legal copies of the game to connect to their servers. Using a downloaded copy of Star Wars Galaxies might get you banned from SWGEmu.

So, if you already have a copy of the game then install it but don't run it yet because you'll still have to download and install SWGEmu's SWG launcher called Launchpad Enhanced or LPE. It's free and you can download it from SWGEmu. For more details on what you have to do to play Star Wars Galaxies in SWGEmu's server, click here.

Remember, SWGEmu's SWG server software is emulating the Pre-CU (Pre-Combat Upgrade) version of Star Wars Galaxies. This is the non-WOW-fied or non- EQ-fied version of the game. If you're used to WOW or EQ based MMO games then SWG Pre-CU will feel very, very different but don't be discouraged because you'll eventually get the hang of it.

Super Hero Squad Online is a fun free-to-play multiplayer online game. It's based on a cartoon show and it has all your favorite Marvel Super Heroes and Villains. It will let you play as Captain America, Cyclops, Ironman, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor, etc. and you'll get to battle Red Skull, Doctor Octopus, Magneto and other Marvel Villains.

Captain America in Super Hero Squad Online
(Captain America in Super Hero Squad Online)

The game is also safe for kids to play. If you are a parent looking for a game for your kids to play online then Super Hero Squad Online is what you're looking for. Of course, adults play the game as well but it's very, very kid friendly. You won't see any vulgarity or profanity in the game because the game is all about having fun and looking cute.

The game is free-to-play and it's played in your web browser. You'll just have to create a free account and play the game. If you are a new player then here are two codes that will reward you with some silvers and golds in the game. You can use them to buy new heroes for your account or buy items for your headquarters.

The Secret World Free-To-Play, Will You Play?

Funcom's latest Triple A MMO, The Secret World, was launched just a few months ago but there are already articles in the internet talking about it going Free-To-Play. For example, Massively already has a post titled "Funcom is ready to take The Secret World F2P if need be" and it looks like Funcom only has to flip a switch to turn The Secret World from a Subscription game into a Free-To-Play game.

Will you play The Secret World when it goes Free-To-Play?
(Will you play The Secret World when it goes Free-To-Play?)

Of course, it's only a figure of speech because the developers will still have to do a lot of coding to convert the game to Free-To-Play if the need for it arrives in the future. In another post found at VR-Zone.com, it states that The Secret World is now a profitable MMO and Funcom achieve it by laying-off people and other cost cutting measures.

Seriously, if a game developer/publisher needs to lay-off people to make a game successful then I don't think I could call that success at all. A truly successful game should be getting more people to work developing it and not the other way around but if it makes them money then who am I to question that. LOL!

Personally, I have no plans of buying nor subscribing to the game but if it did go Free-To-Play then I'll definitely give it a try. The only game that I'm planning on spending money on right now is Guildwars 2. The only thing that kept me from doing so was this recent issue with NC Soft and Paragon Studios.

I still think the sudden closure of Paragon Studios and City Of Heroes: Freedom was a dick move on the part of NC Soft. I may not be an active player but I was a former subscriber. The only thing that stopped me from playing the game when it went Free-To-Play was an issue with my video card which was over working itself when I play the game.

In any case, I'm sure The Secret World going Free-To-Play will attract a lot of potential paying Free-To-Play players. What about you? Will you play The Secret World if it goes Free-To-Play? Who knows, it might just be sooner than everyone expects. LOL!

Gotham City Impostors: Free-To-Play, It's Fun, It's Whacky, It's Weird

If you like playing weird and funny online first-person shooting games then you should check-out Gotham City Imposters. It's a Free-To-Play online FPS game and, I called it weird and funny because you'll get to wear the costumes of Gotham City's famous and infamous personalities namely the Batman and the Joker.

Gotham City Impostors
(Gotham City Impostors)

Gotham City Impostors is a fast-paced first-person shooter with tons of extra stuff that were taken or inspired by the Dark Knight. For example, you'll be able to use boomerangs, grappling hooks and other weird looking homemade gadgets. These gadgets will help you fight crime in Gotham City. In fact, you can even glide through the air like the Batman.

Like most first-person shooters, you'll be fighting alongside other players in one of two teams and these two teams are called the Batz and the Jokerz. Before a match starts, the game will randomly assign you to one of these two teams. Don't worry about how you'll look because the game will automatically switch your costume from either the Batman or the Joker.

Speaking of costumes, you'll have two sets of costumes available to you. One set is based on the Batman's costume and the other set is based on the Joker's costume. You'll start with the default look of the two costume sets but you'll be able to customize any of them as you play the game.

Gotham City Impostors
(The Jokerz Costume Set)

Gotham City Impostors has a good collection of weapons to choose from like rifles, submachine guns, shotguns, snipers, launchers, etc. and you can also modify or customize them. Unfortunately, you'll have to unlock new weapons either by gaining levels or by completing certain missions.

The game is Free-To-Play and that means you don't have to spend anything to enjoy it but if you want to unlock certain items immediately then you can always buy it with real cash from STEAM. Remember, purchasing items from the game to enhance your game is not BAD.

Other players might loot at it as Pay2Win but if no one pays or buys anything with real money then the game won't survive long. Think of it as supporting the game so that you and your friends (and those whiny little kids) can continue playing the game for FREE. He he he.

Weapon Customization
(Weapon Customization)

Gotham City Impostors currently has 6 game modes and these are Team Deathmatch, Fumigation, Psych Warfare, Bounty Hunter, Challenges and Initiation. I've only tried two of these game mode, Team Deathmatch and Initiation.

Initiation is just a tutorial where you'll learn all the tricks in surviving Gotham City like using the grappling hook, gliding in the air, jumping on trampolines and even skating. Initiation can be a fun experience that's why new players should definitely go through it.

Unfortunately, Gotham City Impostors isn't a game for me. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game but I'm not a big fan of the style of the game. It just feels too weird and cartoony for me.

Anyway, I want you to try the game before passing judgement on it. It may not be for me but, who knows, it could be the perfect game for you.

It's free-to-play and you can easily download it from STEAM.

City Of Heroes Servers Are Going Bye, Bye!

City Of Heroes servers are going bye, bye because the game will soon reach the end of its life. The news about City Of Heroes shutting down definitely surprised me and it also surprised a lot of people as well because, as far as I know, City Of Heroes isn't experiencing any kind of problems. In fact, new updates were just recently released and some of them like the Water Blast Power Set are pretty cool.

Goodbye City Of Heroes
(Goodbye City Of Heroes)

The news about the impending closure of City Of Heroes servers was announced in the official website. From what I could understand from the announcement, the only reason given as to why City Of Heroes is closing had something to do with the company's realignment of focus and publishing support.

As a gamer, I have no idea what that means but that's why City Of Heroes and it's servers are closing. Actually, it's not just the servers. NCSoft has decided to shut down or close Paragon Studios which is the company developing City Of Heroes. If there is no Paragon Studios then there won't be any City Of Heroes.

As for the exact date and time City Of Heroes will turn its lights off, the announcement didn't say anything about it. I guess the purpose of the announcement is to prepare those who are still playing the game about the closure and to give them time to finish everything they're doing and to say goodbye to all their friends in the game.

Freedom wasn't the Future, it was DEATH!
(Freedom wasn't the Future, it was DEATH!)

City Of Heroes is the only game I bought or paid for online and I had lots of fun playing it. I briefly returned when it went Free-To-Play and played the game for a while before moving on to other games. My time playing City Of Heroes was well spent because I enjoyed every minute of it.

Anyway, if you want to get more information about City Of Heroes impending closure then click here. Also, if you are a former player and you still have the game installed on your computer then why not visit the game again and reminisce about the good old days of your career as a Superhero or a Villain.

Bye, bye City Of Heroes. Bye, bye Paragon Studios. Bye, bye City Of Heroes servers.
